Massachusetts loss seat in Congress

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

Massachusetts is eyeing the possible loss of one of its seats in Congress as the nation's population growth shifts from the Northeast to southern and western states.
Massachusetts narrowly hung onto all 10 of its House seats a decade ago after losing a seat in 1990.

On Tuesday that number could drop to nine.
That's when the Census Bureau releases state population totals that dictate how the nation reapportions all 435 House districts to the states.

None of Massachusetts' 10 House members have indicated that their new term would be their last, although two -- Michael Capuano and Stephen Lynch -- have been mentioned as possible candidates against U.S. Sen. Scott Brown in 2012.
